What Did They Tell Us ?

Priorities and Interests of Gulf Youth in Opinion Polls
2016

This study sheds light on the voice of Gulf youth as expressed by themselves through credible, multi-source opinion polls. It seeks to move beyond stereotypes and preconceived impressions about their interests and priorities. The study is guided by a central question: What truly occupies the minds of Gulf youth? Which issues do they consider priorities in their social, economic, media, political, and religious lives.

The study is based on an analysis of opinion poll results conducted across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries over comparable years. It provides an analytical reading of youth interests across multiple areas, such as social values; work and the economy; leisure time; media and social networking platforms; political participation; and religion and belief. It also compares selected findings with Arab and global contexts, helping to situate the distinctiveness of the Gulf experience within a broader framework.

This study serves as an important reference for policymakers, practitioners working in youth institutions and programs, researchers, and others interested in youth affairs. It offers data and analyses that can be leveraged to design policies and programs more closely aligned with young people’s realities and aspirations, and to narrow the gap between what is planned for them and what they actually express.
